At the airport - Vancouver

My concern about our heavy suitcases evaporated when I noticed passengers pulling bags twice the size of ours. Two tiny Taiwanese gentlemen had four huge tartan bags between them and it took both of them to heft each piece onto the conveyer belt --- and they weren't even over the weight limit. Our bags came in at about 27 kg each - mere light weights.

Eva Air - a Taiwanese airline is new to us but they are the only group who would sell us one way tickets. We did have to show them our cruise tickets to prove we were leaving Japan.

We had two hours to kill at the Vancouver airport and most shops and restaurants were closed because it was after midnight. However, Eva Air provided self serve coffee and tea which is a first! Looking around at the other passengers, we noticed quite a few children which gave us pause....but they were very quiet. Everyone spoke in hushed tones; some snoozed and some read. We boarded at 1:30 am and the flight left at 1:55 am.
