Japan Railpasses
It was super easy to get the railpass vouchers. I phoned JTB Travel, who specialize in Japan travel, and ordered them from Jane Kobayashi, a delightfully polite and helpful lady. The yen is at a pretty good exchange rate right now and the seven day passes cost us $325 Cdn each. Apparently just the one train trip from Kyoto to Tokyo return would cost us almost this much. The agency is in the Hotel Vancouver and it was an easy matter to pick them up.When we get to Japan, we go to a JR train station and change the vouchers for the passes naming the day the passes are to start. We plan some side trips to Nara, Hiroshima, Himeji, Nikko and maybe Kobe. Japan Rail even has a line circling central Tokyo and so we can use our passes to get to Akhihabara-the electronics area, Ginza, Ikebukuro, Ueno, Asakusa, etc.
